Professional photographer specialising in portraiture and the documentation of artworks and exhibitions.

For over 25 years, I’ve been helping artists, makers, designers and galleries across the UK present their work at its very best.

I work from a fully equipped studio near the centre of Cardiff, but also travel throughout the UK for site-specific projects.

For me, photography is more than just documentation, it’s about telling the authentic story of the pieces and the people behind them. The images are often the first encounter the world has with your work, and I take that responsibility seriously.

Dewi is an exceptionally astute photographer who has worked with us for over 20 years. During this time we have produced a number of group exhibitions where he has visited each maker documenting their practice through portraits of their studios and processes. With eloquence and clarity he captures the essence of each one, understanding their individual intelligence and style.

Even at our initial meeting Dewi seemed to have an intuitive understanding of my work and my audience, observing and capturing the delicacy and detail in the pieces, creating beautiful photographs with a stillness and space around them.

Dewi has an uncanny and astonishing ability to conjure an image in response to direction given through the most fleeting of terms or from the depths of a shadowy imagination. He possesses the facility to imagine the unseen and listen carefully to the unsaid, his images testament to intuition and instinct.

His work reveals much about the power of image making, but more importantly, about the intangible relationship between the photographer and their subject; a relationship that is rather inscrutable but not utterly unfathomable. In this instance, it was one in which trust, patience and humour was offered freely. It was also one in which I came to understand the notion of the photographer ‘taking care,’ not only in terms of their picture making, but in responding to all aspects of their subjects’ frailties and frustrations too. Therein lies the real joy, wonder and humanity embedded within collaborative practice.
